Women’s Legal Service (WLS) is a leading not for profit community legal centre providing specialised legal and social support services to women experiencing family law, domestic violence and child protection related matters.

Each year, WLS help thousands of Queensland women to obtain the legal and social support they need whilst raising the community’s awareness of domestic violence, advocating for increased and improved access to services and working with government and community stakeholders on meaningful law reform.


Health Justice Partnership Solicitor

We currently have a unique opportunity for a dedicated and experienced Family Lawyer to develop and drive our Health Justice Partnership pilot program with the Logan Hospital and the PA Hospital. This role is being offered as a contract position working full time until 30 June 2019.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Engaging with stakeholders at the Logan and PA Hospitals and other health sites from time to time, to drive the development, implementation and growth of the Health Justice Partnership in order to provide women in need with a legal service that is readily accessible and integrated with patient care services.
  • Improving the knowledge, understanding and skills of healthcare professionals and other stakeholders by developing and delivering community legal education and resources.
  • Providing direct client advice and referrals, from time to time undertaking casework such as legal drafting and court appearances and providing services to women through a trauma informed practice framework.
  • Ensuring risk assessment and safety considerations are routinely and comprehensively addressed in legal work undertaken by the team and associated volunteers when providing support, information and advice to clients.
  • Contributing to a collaborative team culture of staff and volunteers which is professional, productive, supportive and consistent with the WLS Values and feminist principles.


Experienced Criminal Law, Family Law or Domestic Violence Secretary

We currently have a new and unique opportunity for an experienced Secretary to join our recently funded Sexual Assault Counselling Privilege (SACP) legal service.  This role will provide specialised paralegal and administrative support to the SACP Solicitor and will work closely with other administrative staff across WLS to ensure the efficient and effective operations of the WLS and its programs.

Your duties will include:

  • Helping to develop new processes, practices, procedures and precedents.
  • Assisting with managing client relationships and handling client enquiries.
  • Word processing and preparing and editing documents such as letters, file notes, court forms and briefs to counsel.
  • Managing hard copy and electronic files including opening and closing files.
  • Maintaining WLS databases and statistical records.
  • Managing calendars and emails.
  • Managing client referrals into the service.

All WLS staff are also responsible for contributing to a collaborative team culture which is professional, productive, supportive and consistent with the WLS Values and feminist principles.

This role is being offered as a 12-month contract position working part-time (3 days a week, 18 hours / week).
